Memorials
A member of the clergy in our community uses the analogy of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly to ease the pain of those suffering the loss of a loved one. He believes that at the time our souls depart our earthly bodies they, like the butterfly, undergo a miraculous transformation which frees them to enter Heaven. Those experiencing a loss may wish to acknowledge this transformation and "let go" of their loved one with a symbolic butterfly release at the memorial service.
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam.
And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world.
But then it flies on again,
And though we wish it could have stayed,
We feel lucky to have seen it.
